Care Services
The Care Services team offers students a safe place to land, help with administrative processes, make connections to on-campus and community resources, and provide general support for student well-being. Care Services includes the following programmatic areas:
Supporting Our Students Program
The University community may refer individuals in need or after an alarming interaction through our “SOS” form to connect easily to the Office when in need. Students referred to the Office will be triaged into a level of CARE case depending on their need, with a corresponding response protocol in conjunction with the NaBITA risk assessment model, which is considered the national best practice.
Nesting Place Program
Students within the Nesting Place Program have been approved through the homeless tuition waiver or the Department of Children and Families tuition waiver. The Nesting Place pantry is supported through generous donors to help provide hygiene products, food, and other essentials students within the program need.
Exceptional Withdrawals
There may be times during a student’s academic career when a physical or mental health illness becomes overwhelming, and the student can no longer perform academically. Petitioning for an exceptional withdrawal from a course or semester requires documentation of illness or injury, and communication occurs between the Dean of Students Office and the Registrar and Controller when students are approved.
Medical Amnesty Program
Students are encouraged to seek medical assistance for themselves, students, or friends who are under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other substances. This program helps to eliminate barriers for calling for help by focusing on student well-being rather than a disciplinary response. Students will be asked to meet with a staff member to connect them to appropriate resources on-campus.
