Defining Concerning Behavior
Students in distress may exhibit various behaviors. Below, you will find a list of potential behaviors students may present when struggling with a personal and emotional, social, or academic situation. It is critical to remember that if a student is showing signs that fall into the Urgent category, then you should contact UPD at (904) 620-2800 or call 9-1-1 BEFORE submitting a referral to the Dean of Students Office.

- Harm/safety of others
- Threat of harm to self/others
- Death of a student
Behavioral

- Disordered eating behaviors
- Unusual/erratic behaviors
- Disruptive behavior
- Suspected substance abuse
- Physical altercation
- Stalking
- Inappropriate interest in weapons
- Threats of harm (veiled or direct)
Personal or Emotional
- Grieving Student
- Victimization
- Injury/illness
- Impulsiveness
- Worrisome hygiene/appearance
- Fearful behavior
- Lack of motivation
- Changes in self-esteem/self-confidence
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Exaggerated personality traits
- Inappropriate outbursts/reactions
Situational
- Group conflict
- Relationship/roommate concerns
- Communication concerns
- Excessive absences
- Classroom disruption
- Disturbed writing/content concerns
- Financial concerns
- Needs insecurity (housing, food, supplies, etc.)
