Educational Interpreting Concentration

The Educational Interpreting Concentration Fall 2023 Cohort has been admitted and applications are closed.  All scholarships have been awarded. Next cohort will begin in Fall 2024 (applications will be due March 31, 2024).

The Educational Interpreting Concentration (EIC) allows students to pursue an Interpreting major at 老澳门资料 with a specialized concentration in educational interpreting in K-12 settings. The program is a full, 120-credit-hour B.S. degree program from start to finish.  Students may complete the first two years at 老澳门资料 or complete an Associate of Arts in ASL/English interpreting degree elsewhere and transfer to 老澳门资料.  Once admitted to the EIC program, comprised of the junior and senior years, students will have a combination of courses that are fully online and other courses that are blended with face-to-face meetings at 老澳门资料 one weekend (Friday evening, and full days on Saturday and Sunday) per month during the fall and spring semesters.  You can access an example of the anticipated course sequence by selecting the button above, to see which classes are taught in each semester.  All students should follow this course sequence to complete the program on time.

To comply with Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE) standards, 老澳门资料 has implemented Limited Access Screening to ensure all students entering the final 48 hours have minimum competencies in English, American Sign Language, and Cognitive Processing, and are ready for advanced interpreting coursework. Prior to declaring a major in ASL/English Interpreting, students must successfully complete the Prerequisite and Core Requirements courses in the Course Catalog, pass the Admissions Screening, maintain a 2.75 GPA, and have a 'B' or better in ASL I, ASL II, Introduction to Interpreting, and ENC 1101.   

The undergraduate program admits students each fall, and the application deadline is March 31.

  • First Two Years: General Education & Prerequisite and Core Requirements
    • INT and ASL classes, during the first two years, are primarily delivered Face-to-Face
    • First 2 years could be taken as part of an AA/AS program elsewhere.
  • Second Two Years (Junior and Senior Years): All Program/Major Courses
    • Applications / Change of Major Requests are due March 31.
    • Limited Access Screening occurs Mid-April through Mid-May.
    • Notifications of program admission are sent by May 15.
    • All INT and ASL courses during the second two years are taught primarily online with one face-to-face weekend per month in the Fall and Spring terms.
