Learning Design & Technology Bachelor of Science

Program Mission Statement

The undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Learning Design & Technology major is primarily concerned with professional applications of training and design for K-12, higher education, nonprofits, military, business, industry, corporate, and other training settings. Within 老澳门资料’s Department of Leadership, School Counseling, and Sport Management, the Educational Technology program faculty are committed to providing a high-quality undergraduate Learning Design and Technology education that serves the professional needs for trainers and designers. The curriculum has been developed to include coursework in the principles and foundations of instructional design and in the training functions to meet educational needs. The goal of the program is to provide quality undergraduate instruction in learning design, development, and training which prepares students for lifelong learning and success, provide intellectual contributions that enhance the delivery of instruction, improve the application of existing knowledge and provide solutions for educational needs through applied data analysis and instructional research.

We are committed to high-quality curricula that prepare students for professional careers in training, design, and development, that advances the reputation of the university, and service to the university, academic and professional communities, including but not limited to Northeast Florida. To achieve our mission, students engage in learning activities inside and outside the classroom, such as participating in field experiences, internships, community-based learning,designing education, and training programs.

Student Learning Outcomes

Graduates will be able to:

Content/Discipline-Specific Knowledge/Skills

  • Apply principles for learning design, instructional strategies, and learner focused environments through design projects and transformative learning experiences with the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as a central framework.
  • Design innovative teaching and learning systems and environments supported by evaluation and learner-based analytics.
  • Develop field-focused credentials, knowledge, and applied skills as they relate to learning design, leadership, and talent development.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of learning systems by applying design principles and learning theory through formative, summative, and program assessment.
  • Create instructional materials through the use of learning systems, media, print, and advanced technologies.

Communication Skills

  • Students will demonstrate effective communication skills in questioning, speaking, listening, and through the medium of technology.
  • Incorporate into practice during training design, effective image-based, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership and management skills to work productively within professional teams to enhance quality improvement processes and improve educational outcomes.

Critical Thinking Skills

  • Evaluate and integrate data findings into evidence-based professional training design and practice.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to think critically to identify problems and propose alternatives to these problems and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking by identifying, analyzing, and evaluating the learning behaviors of others and themselves in a variety of contexts.

Assessment Approaches

The Learning Design & Technology Program will utilize direct and indirect measures to assess student mastery of eleven Student Learning Outcomes. Outcomes will be assessed by a series of embedded class assessments, exams, and problem-solving exercises, by class assignments, presentations and projects, research assignments, and self-analysis in oral and written contexts; Indirect Measures will include University Surveys of Graduating Seniors; and Alumni Surveys.
