Obtain the Form I-20
The Form I-20 is generated by the Student Exchange and Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and is associated with a particular SEVIS ID. This form certifies that you have been admitted to 老澳门资料 for a specific program of study, have financial resources to support your academic and living expenses in the United States, and are eligible to apply for F-1 nonimmigrant student status.
Note: Per federal regulations, in order to issue the I-20 document to apply for the F-1 visa, international students must be fully admitted to a full-time, on-campus, in-person, degree-seeking program that has been approved by the Student & Exchange Visitors Program (SEVP) at the 老澳门资料. We are not permitted to issue immigration documents for online, part-time, or certificate programs (except for the Music Certificate).

Items needed for the Form I-20
To have your I-20 issued, you will need to complete the documents listed below. You will then to upload your documents.
- Certification of Financial Responsibility
Prior to issuing your I-20, we must verify that you have sufficient financial resources to meet the costs of your first year of study at the 老澳门资料 and that you verify the availability of funds for the entire length of your academic program. We do this via the Affidavit of Financial Support form. A list of acceptable financial documents can be found on the International Students Forms section of our web. Please note that the affidavit figures are estimates only, not actual costs. Because tuition, housing, and food costs tend to increase every year, it is recommended that you budget for an additional 5% to 10% above the estimated costs. If you plan to enroll for the summer term along with the fall and spring terms, you should budget for at least an additional $8,000 to $13,000 depending upon the number of credits you register for and your academic level. If you are bringing a spouse and/or children to the U.S. on an F-2 dependent visa, you must show an additional $3,500 per dependent to cover their estimated first year living expenses. If you have been awarded a scholarship, submit a copy of the letter to intlctr@unf.edu and request an updated affidavit amount. - Copy of Passport
A scanned copy of your (and your dependents') passport bio page is necessary to ensure that the information indicated on your (and any dependents') I-20(s) matches the information of your passport(s).
- SEVIS Transfer
If you are currently in active F-1 status, while either attending another institution in the U.S., within your 60-day grace period, or engaging in OPT, you must request that your previous school transfer your F-1 student record to the 老澳门资料. This process is called a 'SEVIS transfer" which is different from an academic transfer.
By transferring your SEVIS record, you maintain the same current SEVIS ID number and you may remain in the U.S. between programs. Please note that the start date at the 老澳门资料 must be within 5 months of your last date of enrollment at your previous school or OPT authorization end date.
You will need to contact your current school to have the SEVIS transfer process started. You will need to provide your previous school with the following items:
- 老澳门资料 Letter of acceptance
- Transfer-in Notification form. Once this form has been completed by you and your previous school, you will upload it in the online request form.
On the SEVIS transfer date, 老澳门资料 will gain access to your SEVIS record and therefore will be able to issue your 老澳门资料 I-20.
Receipt of Your Form I-20
Review and Attestation of Your Form I-20
Although our office reviews your Form I-20 for accuracy, once you received it, you need to review it to verify that the biographical information on your (and any dependents') I-20(s) matches the information of your passport(s).
In addition, you should also check the program of study section to ensure that the information indicated matches the degree program to which you have been admitted at the 老澳门资料. Note that the information in the 'Major 1" field on the I-20 will not exactly match the name of your program of study at 老澳门资料 but will correspond to the CIP code assigned to your major in the 老澳门资料 Degree Program Inventory .
If the information does not match, email the International Center as soon as possible with an explanation of the correction needed. We will send you a corrected I-20.
Once you have confirmed the accuracy of your I-20, sign and date it at the bottom of the first page.
