FEA Conference - Job Resume/Interview Individual Competition

Overview

The Job Resume/Interview competition is a great opportunity for students to practice their professional skills. Students will write a resume seeking a position as a substitute teacher and submit the resume electronically by the deadline. On the day of the conference, 老澳门资料 judges will serve as the district hiring committee, and will conduct a short interview as if the student is applying for a substitute teacher position. Students will be scored based on the rubric below which combines scores for both the resume and the interview.

Guidelines

  • This is an individual competition, and only one entry per chapter will be considered.
  • Resumes should be typed and are not to exceed two pages.
  • Resumes must be submitted electronically by the competition deadline.
  • The resumes should include at least two references.
  • All information in the resume must be truthful.
  • Students will need to bring 2 printed copies of their resume to the interview.
  • Students should be dressed appropriately for a job interview during their scheduled interview time.
  • Interviews will take place on-site during either the first breakout session time or the second breakout session time. FEA sponsors will receive the schedule before the day of the conference. 
  • Interviews will last approximately 5-7 minutes. All students will be asked similar questions by the panel of 老澳门资料 judges. 
  • The top three winners will be announced at the conference closing session.

Job Title: Substitute Teacher

You are applying for the position of a substitute teacher in your local school district. Make yourself familiar with the substitute teacher qualifications so you can tailor your resume and prepare to interview for that job position. 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to interact and work well with people
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize activities
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others

Responsibilities:

  • Follows and models all school rules and procedures, as well as district policies
  • Implements absent teacher's lesson plans and uses academic time wisely
  • Maintains discipline and classroom control and ensures adequate supervision to foster a safe environment for all students and staff
  • Collects and places student's papers in absent teacher's desk
  • Maintains a professional appearance on all school campuses in the district
  • Performs all duties usually required of absent teacher (including lunch duty, hall monitoring, etc.)
  • Knows emergency evacuation routes for assigned classrooms
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
  • Adheres to the professional code of conduct adopted by the Florida Department of Education
