Instructional Design

CIRT provides an array of instructional design services to support 老澳门资料 faculty with the systematic process of designing, developing, and delivering instructional materials. The Instructional Design Team is available to consult on instructional design best practices, assist in the conversion of traditional course materials to the online learning format, and provide training and development related to the practical and pedagogical skills necessary for developing and delivering interactive and engaging courses.

Liaison Program

The primary goal of the Liaison Program is to provide communication channels, develop relationships, and promote dialogue between instructional design professionals and the academic communities they serve.

    Role of Liaison

    • Serve as point of contact for departments/programs developing and delivering online courses.
    • Assist in the production of high-quality online courses through instructional design and development, consultation, and workshops.
    • Coordinate faculty development efforts related to the practical and pedagogical skills necessary for developing and delivering online courses.
    • Attend department/program meetings to present techniques for the appropriate use of technology in the development of online instruction, including use of LMS, web conferencing, and new media.
    • Assist colleges with the transition of entire degree programs to fully online.
  • LIAISON SERVICES +

    Liaison Services

    As Instructional Designers our primary role is to provide faculty members with the support needed to assist them with developing and delivering high-quality distance learning courses at 老澳门资料. This includes consulting regularly with faculty members to discuss the use of technology elements in their online courses, identifying instructional challenges, and recommending tools that will help them meet their instructional goals. While that works well for meeting the individual needs of faculty members, we also want to meet the long-term instructional needs of departments and colleges.

    To ensure that we are being proactive in providing additional communication channels between the IDs and the departments/programs delivering online courses, we can also offer to:

    • Attend departmental meetings to discuss our instructional design services and general topics related to online learning at 老澳门资料.
    • Develop and deliver department/program-centric online learning workshops.
    • Assist with organizing cohorts of faculty within your department to complete the Teaching Online Seminars.

Course Development

All of our instructional designers are experienced project managers that can guide course development projects from planning to delivery. They have taught face-to-face, blended, and/or fully online classes, and recognize the value of the student-teacher relationship. Their primary goal is to build high-quality courses personalized to fit your teaching style and exhibit best practices in design and pedagogy. Course development efforts are organized into two areas of focus: faculty-driven and program-based.

Faculty-Driven

The ID Team provides comprehensive faculty development and support to educate faculty on the most effective practices in designing, developing, and distributing online course materials. In addition to providing year-round training and support, the ID Team is available for individual consultations or by attending departmental meetings. Among other benefits, the instructional designer will help faculty identify aspects of course development that require assistance from other teams at CIRT and initiate such communication to ensure efficient course development.

Program-Development

The Instructional Design Team also works with departments/programs to develop fully online degree and certificate programs. The process encourages groups of faculty within departments to collaborate through regular meetings and discussions about course content and program goals. Online program development requires faculty to be more attuned to the needs of colleagues and students beyond their individual courses since each course is inextricably linked to the other courses within the online program. Online programs are assigned an instructional designer to serve as the primary contact to coordinate the design and development of all program courses in consultation with faculty.

  • PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT PROCESS +

    Your instructional designer will also organize and facilitate whatever meetings are necessary to ensure the successful implementation of online program development.

    Required meetings that would occur before the first course in the program is delivered include:

    • Intake - Initial discussion with Department Chair/Program Director, 老澳门资料 Online, and CIRT.
    • Kickoff – Meeting with all faculty members in the program to make decisions on a course development timeline, course-design templates, faculty training and support, and the Quality Matters (QM) internal review process.
    Meetings that occur as needed to ensure online program development progresses as planned, include:
    • Progress – Presentation to faculty members in the program to show course development progress and discuss their issues or concerns.
    • Implementation – Another presentation on the status of program development coupled with discussions on best practices for delivering and maintaining the integrity of program-based course design elements.
