Transfer Students

I am interested in joining 老澳门资料, what should I do?

Applying with Admissions is the first step. If you are not sure or have questions, please review the below list of FAQs. You can email any additional questions to computing@unf.edu. You can also request a meeting and we will arrange for a phone/video call or an in-person meeting.

I have been admitted to one of the Computing programs, now what?

Congratulations! You should have received (or will shortly receive) a letter from the School to schedule your mandatory advising information session. Those sessions have set schedules and must be completed no later than six weeks of the admission term start date. Do not wait for the last session as a seat may not be available by then. Those sessions have capacities and they fill up quickly, first come first serve. If you miss the last session, you will not be able to take classes that semester and we will recommend deferring your admission to a future term. Remember that you will still need to lift holds, develop a plan of study (POS), etc., so you cannot just wait until the last minute. 

Accommodations may be provided to those with documented extenuating circumstances.

Which of my courses will transfer to 老澳门资料?

Always check 老澳门资料 course transfer policy. Generally, the answer depends on a number of factors.

  • For credits earned from a Florida public university/college as part of a Bachelor or Associate of Arts program prior to enrolling into 老澳门资料

All your successfully completed credits will transfer. Florida public universities/colleges use a common course numbering system, so if a course you took is required for your 老澳门资料 Computing program, that requirement is met. We go by the course number, not the course title.

General Education (Gen Ed) courses are different though. If you earned an Associate of Arts (A.A.) from a public Florida university or college before joining 老澳门资料, 老澳门资料’s General Education (Gen Ed) requirements will be met. But if you will transfer to 老澳门资料 before earning an A.A. degree, 老澳门资料’s Gen Ed Council will review your courses to determine which ones apply toward our Gen Ed requirements. Those requirements are listed on the Education Program Requirements page.

Additionally, if you believe a course you took before joining 老澳门资料 is similar to one required for 老澳门资料’s Gen Ed or Computing program although has a different number, after joining 老澳门资料, you can ask your academic advisor to submit a transcript reevaluation request for you. You will need to furnish a syllabus of the course you took.

  • For credits earned from a Florida public university or college as part of an Associate of Science programs prior to enrolling into 老澳门资料

The Associate of Science (A.S.) degree is designed to be a terminal degree; therefore, most of the courses earned as part of the A.S. are not transferable toward 老澳门资料’s Computing programs.

  • For credits earned from an academic establishment of higher education accredited by a suitable institution accreditor that is not part of the Florida State Universities/Colleges System (i.e. either out-of-state or private) prior to enrolling into 老澳门资料

Generally, all your successfully completed courses will be transferred (see 老澳门资料 course transfer policy for exceptions). 老澳门资料’s admission office will evaluate each course for equivalence to Gen Ed and Computing program requirements. If you believe a course you took before joining 老澳门资料 is similar to one required for 老澳门资料’s Gen Ed or Computing program although has a different number, after joining 老澳门资料, you can ask your academic advisor to submit a transcript reevaluation request for you. 老澳门资料 Computing programs have prerequisites, do I have to fulfill all of them before transferring to 老澳门资料?

While it is not mandatory that all prerequisites are completed before you transfer, completing most or all of your Computing program prerequisites will give you the most options in terms of degree progression to your major courses and staying on track to graduate. You still can complete the rest or the uncompleted prerequisites at 老澳门资料 after you’re admitted.

Do I have to fulfill all the program prerequisites before I could take other courses?

No. You can take any course as long as you have fulfilled the course’s prerequisites.

I still have one or more semesters to spend at my current Florida public university/college before transferring to 老澳门资料. What courses should I take?

First and foremost, discuss your plan with your current academic advisor, let them know of your intended 老澳门资料 computing program, and ask to align your future courses with those required by 老澳门资料 Computing as much as possible. You may be able to complete the A.A. degree requirements while completing some (or all) of 老澳门资料’s Computing program prerequisites. This shall help you graduate sooner from 老澳门资料.

What courses can I take at my current Florida public university/college before transferring to 老澳门资料?

If you plan to transfer to 老澳门资料 before earning an A.A. degree, you should take as many of 老澳门资料’s Gen Ed and Computing prerequisite courses as possible. But if you plan to transfer after earning your A.A. degree, then you may focus on incorporating as many of the 老澳门资料 Computing program courses in your A.A. coursework. The specific program prerequisites depend on the Computing program you choose. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the following programs. All of them are highly technical and highly challenging, but they prepare you for different career opportunities. Please be considerate of your career ambitions and academic subject preferences & abilities.

Computer Science:

The program focuses on the theoretical foundations of the computing field and system level design and programming. It is suitable for someone who is good in math, science and programming, and enjoys the creation of new technologies that can be applied to various domains.

Program Prerequisites:

  • MAC 2311--Calculus I
  • MAC 2312--Calculus II
  • COP 2220--Programming I
  • PHY 2048/L--Calculus-Based Physics I w/ Lab (or PHY 2048C)
  • PHY 2049/L--Calculus-Based Physics II w/ Lab (or PHY 2049C)
  • Two sciences for science majors. The approved list is in the course catalog. Note: If you attend FSCJ, ESC1000, AST1002, and ISC1075 are also acceptable science for science major courses, in addition to those in the list.

Information Science:

The program focuses on software development concepts and requires a minor. It is suitable for someone who is good in programming and enjoys solving problems and developing solutions for a particular domain (determined by the minor).

Program Prerequisites:

  • MAC 2233--Calculus for Business
  • STA 2023--Elementary Statistics
  • CGS 1100--Computer Applications for Business
  • COP 2220--Programming I

Information Systems:

The program focuses on software development concepts and requires a number of business courses. Suitable for someone who is good in programming and enjoys solving problems and developing solutions for business organizations. Note: You will be one course away from earning a Business Administration minor, so you may consider adding the minor.

  • MAC 2233--Calculus for Business
  • STA 2023--Elementary Statistics
  • SCG 1100--Computer Applications
  • COP 2220--Programming I
  • ECO 2013--Macroeconomics
  • ECO 2023--Microeconomics
  • ACG 2021--Financial Accounting
  • ACG 2071--Managerial Accounting

Information Technology:

The program focuses on cybersecurity and network design. It is suitable for someone with good trouble shooting skills who enjoys solving technical problems and tuning systems to improve their performance and security.

Program Prerequisites:

  • MAC 2233--Calculus for Business
  • STA 2023--Elementary Statistics
  • CGS 1100--Computer Applications for Business
  • COP 2220--Programming I

Data Science:

The program focuses on studying data related concepts and technologies. It is suitable for someone who is good in math and science and interested in applying statistical and machine learning concepts to discover patterns within large datasets.

Program Prerequisites:

  • MAC 2311--Calculus I
  • MAC 2312--Calculus II
  • COP 2220--Programming I
  • Science Major Course Sequence: select 1
    • PHY 2048/L & PHY 2049/L
    • CHM 2045/L & CHM 2046/L
    • BSC 1010/L & BSC 1011/L

When should I apply to 老澳门资料?

Always check Important Deadlines for 老澳门资料 admission deadlines. You may apply earlier. We suggest that you apply at the beginning of the term preceding your intended first term. This will give you enough time to send your transcript, remove all the holds, meet with your advisors, etc.
