Undergraduate Academic Advising

The Undergraduate Studies (UGS) Academic Advising Division is here to help as you pursue your goals of academic success. Academic advisors will assist you in making informed decisions about selecting a major and defining a path toward earning your degree. Advisors can assist you in building your class schedule, help you complete required forms and point you toward the resources you’ll need to graduate on time and move forward to professional success.

Students admitted as First Time in College (FTIC) students or are transferring in with less than 30 credit hours will begin their advising journey through First-Year Advising (FYA).  This relationship starts at New Student Orientation and continues as the student successfully transitions through their first year. Incoming freshman with accelerated credit such as Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), CLEP, Dual Enrollment, including students who earn their AA degree while completing high school, will have an assigned FYA advisor as well as an advisor in the college of their major. Students will transition to their UGS college advising office at the completion of earning 30 credit hour and being in good academic standing. Students choosing to continue their major exploration or who are not eligible to transition will continue to be advised by their assigned FYA advisor.

Transfer students admitted with a declared major and 30 hours or more of transfer coursework will be advised by their UGS college advising office. Exploring or undecided transfer students with 30 hours or more of transfer work will begin their academic advising FYA until they are eligible to transition to their UGS college academic advising unit.
