Terms: A to K

A


Adaptive Design: It's a range of multiple web pages or images that fit different screen sizes.

Anchor: An anchor is an internal bookmark that takes you to a specific position on your page. You can link to it from another point on your page or another page.

Asset: Any entity within Cascade CMS that can be used to generate content. Assets are classified as a Page, File, Block, Format, External Link, Folder, Template, or Reference.

Banner Image: It’s the big image on a webpage that appears at the top, right under the top navigation.

Blocks: A Block is ‘pluggable’ piece of content or code that can be easily substituted (with or without styling) into any page region. It is especially useful for content that is to appear on multiple pages and allows that content to be updated from a single file (the block).

Breadcrumbs: Backwards pathway from the current page back to the homepage.

Cache: It's memory that stores data so that future requests for that data can be served faster.

Content Management System (CMS): A tool for creating, editing and publishing web pages.

Dashboard: Comprised of several widgets that allow you to explore your content.

Draft: An unpublished piece of content.

Files: An image (jpeg, png, svg) or file, or any other static content

Folders: A container within Cascade CMS that holds other assets

Google Analytics: A platform used to track traffic on your site.

Index Page: Your folder’s landing or entry page. Every folder must have a page called index for your navigation to function properly. Do not change the system name of an index page or you’ll lose the entry page of that folder.

L


Left Navigation: Left menu where a site’s navigation is listed.

Live Site: Live site is on the web for everyone to see.

M


Metadata: Data on pages, files and images that provides information about the page, file or image.

P


Pages: Mutable Asset built by Cascade CMS from other Assets to create the finished product such as a web page or XML document. 

Publishing: Publishing means pushing your changes to the live website.

R


Responsive Design: Responsive web design refers to design and development that responds to the different sized screens and orientation.

S


Stale Content: Identifies and manages site content that may need updating.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO): The process of improving the quality and quantity of web traffic to your website.

T


Tables: Layout tables are used to position elements in a document. They do not represent or imply any relationships among content. Data tables are grids that show the relationship between two or more items, in rows and columns. 

Template: Basic building block for a Page’s layout

Tier: A section of a page within Cascade. Tier's are most prominent on Advanced Page layouts.

Title: Appears in the title bar at the top of a web browser when viewing a page. It is also your Heading One.

Top Navigation: Menu listed in the header of a site.

U


Unpublishing: Unpublishing means taking an asset off the live or test website.

URL: The address of a webpage.

V


Versions: Cascade CMS maintains a full version history for each Asset in Cascade CMS. A User can add messaging associated with each version of an asset.

W


WYSIWYG: What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) is the name of the editing tool bar.
