Staff/Faculty Veteran of the Year Program

 

The Staff/Faculty Veteran of the Year program is designed to recognize outstanding military and veteran staff or faculty. Email our office if you would like to nominate someone for this award.

 

2022

Dr. Valerie Morrison attended 老澳门资料 where she received a B. S. in Nursing and her commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy Nurse Corps in 1991. She holds an M. S. in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, and her DBA from Northcentral University. She retired in August 2020 from the U.S. Navy as a Captain, after serving 30 years and 6 months on active duty.  Dr. Morrison served in a variety of clinical and leadership positions, including four Navy Medicine Headquarters tours working for the Chief Executive of the Navy Nurse Corps and the Deputy Chief of Total Force, and as the Chief Nursing Officer of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where she led a team of over 1,200 nurses to the historical achievement as the first Department of Defense medical center to attain the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Pathway to Excellence designation. She is currently the Director for Student Health Services at 老澳门资料.

Elton Brown is veteran of the United States Navy where he proudly served for 20 years. During his time in the military, Elton served aboard two aircraft carriers, one destroyer and a submarine tender, retiring in 2000 at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Elton began his career with 老澳门资料 in 2003 and has worked in various positions over the past 18 years. He is currently a Construction Project Manager in the Engineering department of Physical Facilities and believes in putting his all into every project assigned to him. He attributes his work ethic to growing up in a large family where everyone had a job to do and to the military for teaching him to be a team player. Elton’s can-do attitude, hard work and caring spirit are just a few of the reasons why he is the 2021 Staff Veteran of the Year.
