The Osprey Map provides a term-by-term sample schedule for each undergraduate academic program at the 老澳门资料. It is designed to guide students in the selection of courses each term. The "Mile Marker" courses are those courses that should be completed before or by the end of that term. Following the sample schedule, and completing the mile marker courses at the appropriate point of your undergraduate career, will facilitate graduation in four years. The term-by-term model assumes full-time enrollment. For students enrolled part-time, the sample schedule and mile markers should be followed based on the number of credits completed. The Osprey Map should be used in consultation with an academic advisor.
The Bachelor of Arts program in Communication Studies is dedicated to providing students with learning experiences to enable them to understand communication and its practice in a variety of relationships. Our Mission is to deliver learning opportunities of the highest quality that investigate the processes of human communication so our students become skilled researchers, writers, speakers, listeners, critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and leaders in the field of Communication Studies. We are committed to providing a faculty engaged in the research and teaching of communication theory and practice that examine the creation, transmission, and analysis of verbal, nonverbal and interpersonal messages as they occur within and among individuals, groups, organizations, and cultures. To achieve our mission learners will engage in experiences within and beyond the classroom that promote theoretical understanding and professional/personal practice of ethical human communication in the areas including but not limited to: rhetoric, persuasion, political, health, interpersonal, organizational, and intercultural communication. Visit the webpage for additional information.
Career Planning
Engaging in career planning activities is significant to student success. 老澳门资料 offers customized career centers to deliver targeted programs, events, services and resources. First-Year students should visit the webpage and Sophomore or higher level students with a declared COAS major should visit the College of Arts and Sciences Career Success Center.
Students should refer to their personalized Degree Evaluation provided by an advisor and to other university resources for additional university and college-specific policies. Visit the undergraduate university catalog for more information. The Communication Studies major must complete a Minor. See university catalog for list of available Minors.

- Visit the university catalog for a list of General Education requirements. An Associate in Arts (AA) degree from a Florida public university, state college or community college satisfies 老澳门资料 general education and Gordon Rule requirements. Math selection is contingent upon appropriate placement score, the student's major and/or credit received through accelerated mechanisms (Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment, etc).
- When selecting a Diversity and Difference course (Thinking Critically requirement) for General Education, School of Communication faculty recommend MMC 2701 Communicating Across Cultures (CD).
- The B.A. in Communication Studies will prepare students for entry and/or supervisory positions in the public, private, non-profit, and governmental sectors in which critical thinking, research methods and effective communication skills are required. Occupations such as organizational trainer, sales representative, buyer, or governmental program coordinator are options for program graduates. Some graduates with a B.A. in Communication Studies will enter advanced degree programs in the social sciences or professional degree programs, such as law school. The B.A. in Communication Studies differs from the Department of Communication's existing B.S. in Communication in that the B.S. focuses on preparing students for mass media jobs in journalism, advertising, and public relations, while the B.A. focuses on interpersonal and organizational communication within a wide variety of businesses.
- All B.A. students in the College of Arts and Sciences are required to complete the foreign language or foreign culture requirement with grades of C or higher. Visit the Foreign Language/Foreign Culture section of the university catalog for important information. - Civic Literacy Requirement: Prior to graduation from a Florida state university, students must demonstrate competency in civic literacy through successful completion of a civic literacy course (AMH 2020 or POS 2041) and by achieving a passing score on an assessment. Consult an academic advisor, the university catalog and visit the Civic Literacy webpage for additional information.
- A minimum of 120 hours (48 hours at the upper 3000/4000 level) is required for the bachelors degree. Students may need to complete Free Elective credit at the upper level (3000/4000) to satisfy the minimum 48 semester hours of upper level hours for graduation.
