Registration Waitlists
During registration, most departments offer waitlists for classes that fill to capacity. If the class you wish to register for is currently filled, you will have the option of signing up on a waitlist for that section. This feature tells you how many people have already signed up on the waitlist. If the class becomes open and you are the next name on the waitlist, you will automatically be registered for the course. Please note that you may not move into a class from the waitlist if registration in that section would cause you to exceed max hours, if you are already registered in another section of the class, or if you have a hold.
- You will be permitted to register yourself on a waitlist until the end of the third day of add/drop.
- Although you will receive an email notification indicating when you have been moved into the course from the waitlist, it is important to make sure you are monitoring your schedule during registration.
- You can be placed into a class through the last day of add/drop.
- If you register on a waitlist and subsequently do not want to be placed in that class, YOU MUST DROP by the add/drop deadline or you will be fee liable for the class if you have been placed in it.
- Do not pay for any classes in which you are waitlisted. You are only fee liable for the class(es) in which you are registered.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the Online Waitlist System?
The Online Waitlist System will allow students to place themselves on a waitlist for a closed section while they are registering online. They may do this through the third day of add/drop.
-
Is there a fee associated with online waitlist classes?
If you have been placed on a waitlist during regular registration and are moved into the course during add/drop week, there are no extra fees assessed. -
How do I access online waitlists?
While registering on the web, you will have automatic access to the Online Waitlist System if the section for which you are registering is closed and a waitlist is available. Simply go to the Action drop down menu and choose waitlist to be added to the list. Submit the change and verify that you successfully completed the action.
Most departments offer waitlists. -
How will I know if a class/section will have an online waitlist?
The registration system will display the message, "CLOSED - waitlisted -00#" if a section is closed and offers a waitlist. The number displayed indicates the number of students already on the list for this section. -
Am I eligible to put myself on any waitlist?
No. The registration system will check your eligibility to get on a waitlist just as it checks your eligibility to get into an open section. You must meet the prerequisite requirements and any other rules placed on the class by the department before you can get on a waitlist for a particular section. -
Can I call the department to add me to an online waitlist?
No. Online waitlists are only accessible when you attempt to register for a closed class and a waitlist is available. -
What is the last day to get on a waitlist?
The third day of the add/drop period is the last day to put yourself on a waitlist. -
How can I confirm I am on a waitlist?
In Student Self Service, under Registration, select Add/Drop/Withdraw from Classes. Classes you have registered or waitlisted for are displayed here. -
How will I know if I have been moved off the waitlist and added to the class?
It is your responsibility to monitor your schedule. Check your registration in Student Self Service; choose Registration, Add/Drop from Classes--the action will have changed from Waitlist to Registered if you were added to the class. -
How can I be removed from a waitlist?
There are three ways to be removed from the waitlist:
- You may drop yourself off a waitlist using Student Self Service (an action is required on your part).
- You are added to the course through normal waitlist processing (no action is required on your part).
- After add/drop, the remaining waitlists will be deleted (no action is required on your part).
-
Can I register for another class if there is a time conflict with a waitlisted class?
No. Being on the waitlist holds that time block for your schedule so you can be added to the course if a space becomes available. -
Can I register for another section of the waitlisted course?
You may place yourself on the waitlist for multiple sections of the same course. When one of the sections become available, and you are registered for it, the others are dropped from the waitlist. -
How often is the waitlist processed?
Online waitlists will be updated by computer programs at regular intervals throughout registration and add/drop. This process will move people automatically from the waitlists into open spaces in sections. -
When will online waitlist processing stop?
All online waitlist processing will stop on the last day of add/drop. You can be placed into courses through the last day of add/drop. However, if you have not been moved into a class by the fourth day of add/drop, you should seriously consider registering for a different one. -
How long will I stay on a waitlist?
If you are still on a waitlist at the end of add/drop and you are not enrolled in the class, you will be administratively dropped from the waitlist. Once administratively dropped, the waitlisted class will no longer appear on your schedule information. -
Does the waitlist guarantee I will get into this class?
No. If you must be registered for a certain number of hours, you should consider other courses or sections of the course. -
Can I list my preference for courses/sections?
No. You will be placed in the first available section. Other waitlisted sections of the same class will then be removed. -
Will I be notified if I am added to a class from an online waitlist?
An email notification will be sent once you have been moved into a section. It is the student's responsibility to check 老澳门资料 email and schedule information regularly. -
If I am on a waitlist for a prerequisite course for the summer term, will I be able to enroll in the follow-up course for fall?
No. Being on a waitlist for a summer course does not guarantee you will be able to get into the class, so the registration system will not allow you to register for a fall course requiring the prerequisite. -
Should I attend a waitlisted class if I am still on the waitlist during add/drop?
Generally it is a good idea, but you should contact the instructor for the course to see if he or she thinks you should attend the class. -
Will another section open when a large number of people get on the waitlist?
Not necessarily. Opening additional sections of classes is dependent on the availability of resources, such as faculty, space, and funds, as well as the demand for the class. If a department has the available resources, an additional section may be added. Check the course schedule on the web for the most up-to-date listing of courses. Waitlist information will be collected and utilized for future planning.
