ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ×ÊÁÏ Alumni Association presents Senior Service Award to Nagat Khalifa

Headshot of Nagat KhalifaThe ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ×ÊÁÏ Alumni Associate will present the Spring 2022 Senior Service Award to Nagat Khalifa at commencement this Friday in recognition of her outstanding service to the University and community through volunteerism.

Khalifa is graduating from ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ×ÊÁÏ’s College of Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in Political Science, with the focus on the politics of social justice. She is a first-generation American and committed volunteer for the local refugee and immigrant communities.

She worked with the Florida Immigrant Coalition for three years where she helped Iraqi and Syrian refugees get acclimated to life in the U.S., registered minority groups to vote and advocated on behalf of refugees to state representatives in Tallahassee. She also helped facilitate a 10-hour training for the Jacksonville community on understanding and combatting discrimination based on race, ethnicity or gender.

At the University, Khalifa served as a Presidential Envoy and proudly represented the University at official functions. Khalifa also participated in the Better Together Team at the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ×ÊÁÏ Interfaith Center, was named VP of Jacksonville Campus Ministry, and cofounded the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ×ÊÁÏ Arab Student Union. She also worked as a student advocate for Student Government and led Mental Health Awareness Week activities.  

After graduation, Khalifa plans to continue working with TRIO, a federally funded program that provides resources to high schoolers from first-generation and low-income families to set them up for success in college. Her future plans are to become a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State.
