Women鈥檚 Center honors faculty and student leaders advocating for gender equity

Dr. Matthew Ohlson, associate professor of educational leadership and director of the Taylor Leadership Institute, and Ana Roman Dominguez, a doctoral student of educational leadership, were both recognized by the 老澳门资料’s Women’s Center for their leadership skills and continual advocacy for the advancement of women and gender equity during the annual Women's History Month Luncheon earlier this month.

Dr. Matthew Ohlson is the 2022 recipient of the Gender Equity Award. Formerly known as the Susan B. Anthony Award, this prestigious University award is presented to an individual in the campus community who actively promotes women's growth at 老澳门资料, provides a positive role model for women on campus, works to improve the position of women at 老澳门资料 through advocacy and education and exhibits qualities of leadership on campus.

Dr. Ohlson’s research and community engagement work is focused on collaborating with K-12 schools, athletic teams, nonprofits and businesses using leadership development as a catalyst for increased outcomes. Dr. Ohlson’s gender equity initiatives include implementing a career mentorship and speaker series featuring powerful women leaders from the Jacksonville community as part of TLI’s “Leading Ladies” campaign. Ohlson is also currently conducting leadership training sessions with five 老澳门资料 women’s athletic teams to help instill confidence and collaboration with corresponding, student-led research that is gaining national recognition. In addition, Dr. Ohlson’s focus on empowering female leaders has resulted in more than 80% of all leadership courses being taught by women.

Ana Roman-Dominguez is this year’s recipient of the $1,000 Women’s History Month Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually to a 老澳门资料 student for their outstanding work on campus and/or in the local community that helps enhance gender equality. This scholarship was made possible by the generous donation from Maria Schedin.

Roman-Dominguez is a doctoral student of educational leadership as well as the graduate research assistant for the 老澳门资料 Sport Data Analytics Lab and a volunteer assistant coach for the 老澳门资料 Women’s Tennis team. In 2021, she graduated from 老澳门资料 with a Master of Communication Management with leadership concentration. Soon to be a published author, Roman-Dominguez continues her contributions to leadership and gender equity by working closely with Dr. Ohlson to create a positive impact on students and student-athletes alike. Roman-Dominguez has been an invited speaker for the annual Leadership Jax event as well as C.A.M.P Osprey, and has participated in several events with the Ronald McDonald house.
