The Hicks Honors College offers students extraordinary opportunities for internships, fellowships, and leadership and professional training through its unique signature programs and partnerships with local, regional and national research, cultural, and civic organizations that are leaders in their fields.

Hicks Honors Facilitation Fellows

Hicks Honors peer facilitator program is one of the oldest and most impactful leadership programs at 老澳门资料. Fellows are upper-level Honors students who serve as peer mentors and as teaching, research, and lab assistants in First-Year Experience courses. Fellows learn to facilitate complex conversations, to engage groups with different ideas and viewpoints in collaboration, to lead teams, and to mentor their peers. Fellowships are funded through Hicks Honors and earn credit toward 老澳门资料’s Leadership minor. Facilitation Fellows are among the most successful students and distinguished graduates of 老澳门资料. They are leaders in student clubs and organizations, in Student Government, as Presidential Envoys, as scholars and researchers, and as student citizens who contribute to the impact and effectiveness of non-profits and community organizations in Jacksonville and North Florida.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville and Hicks Honors

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) is Jacksonville’s oldest museum and one of the Southeast’s leading museums of contemporary art. Through its partnership with Hicks Honors, MOCA offers Honors students in all fields of study special opportunities to participate in museum programs, to win high-impact internships, and to contribute to vision and leadership of the university. As early as their first year in college, Honors students are invited to apply to the MOCA Ambassadors program, which offers paid opportunities to develop leadership and professional skills in communications, public relations and guest services while learning about the business and programming operations of a major public museum.

Art educator internships offer students in any field (you don’t have to be a great artist!) the opportunity to work with children and museum visitors on creative educational projects. Internships offer advanced student opportunities for high-value professional experiences relevant to diverse fields of study from art, history, and the humanities to business, communications, and technology and computing. In addition, MOCA reserves a seat on its Board of Trustees, with full rights and privileges, for a student to contribute to the governance of the museum, in partnership with the business, civic, and cultural leaders of North Florida who serve MOCA as trustees.

Honoring the Ocean

Dive into the field of oceanography through the lens of the humanities, and literally sail the high seas with the Florida Institute of Oceanography (FIO). Honoring the Ocean (HtO) is an experiential learning course taught by Honors professors from across the state, exploring humankind's relationship with the ocean through history, art, political science, language, poetry, and science. The program culminates with a 24-hour sailing in the Gulf of Mexico aboard an FIO research vessel alongside HtO faculty. This interdisciplinary experience is open to all majors: enroll with a sense of adventure and a curious mind.

University Innovation Fellows

Hicks Honors' partnership with Stanford’s University Innovation Fellows (UIF) program offers students the opportunity to become catalysts for change on their campuses by developing skills in entrepreneurship, design thinking, and leadership. UIFs engage in hands-on projects, collaborate with like-minded peers, and gain mentorship from industry experts to drive innovation and foster a culture of creativity and problem-solving. This transformative experience empowers students to address real-world challenges, shape the future of higher education, and create meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.
