Program Mission, Goals and Objectives

Program Mission

The mission of the Department of Construction Management is to educate and develop construction professionals with a global perspective through a rigorous, relevant, and accredited degree program offered by faculty devoted to excellence in teaching, scholarly activities, service projects, community involvement and ethical standards. Students will experience an active working relationship with local industry and develop a global perspective through cooperative efforts and exchange programs with international universities and colleges in the framework of a culture of ethics, which are vital in the development of successful construction professionals and provides distinct characteristics for our graduate's pursuit of career development and professional opportunities.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Oral and Written Communication: communicate effectively, conduct oral presentations, write succinctly and generate professional reports.
  2. Problem Solving and Critical Thinking: Understand and solve construction problems. Demonstrate the ability to think and reason logically to make sound economic decisions.
  3. Ethical Standards: Know and uphold ethical standards of the field.
  4. Entry into Industry: Be prepared for successful entry into the construction industry.

Program Learning Outcomes Measures Performance Criteria

Oral and Written Communication

Employers of the CM student Interns evaluate the job performance of the students per their oral and written communication skills on a scale of 0 to 10 (10 being the highest).

Employers will rate 老澳门资料 CM students as having effective oral and written communication skills. 80% of the Students will have a grade equal to or above a 7 out of 10.

Graduating seniors are asked to rate their learning with respect to oral and written communication skills in a graduating senior survey.

Students will evaluate the program and their learning positively.

Student presentation skills and paper writing are measured by instructor and industry guests grades on a scale from A to F and recorded in oral and written communication rubrics.

Students will evaluate the program and their learning positively.

Problem Solving and Critical Thinking

Employers of the CM student Interns evaluate the job performance of the students per problem solving and critical thinking skills on a scale of 0 to 10 (10 being the highest).

Employers will rate 老澳门资料 CM students as having effective problem solving and critical thinking skills. 80% of the Students will have a grade equal to or above a 7 out of 10.

Graduating seniors are asked to rate their learning with respect to problem solving skills in a graduating senior survey.

Students will evaluate the program and their learning positively.

Students are taking the courses and are assessed by instructor and industry guests through exams, quizzes, homework, and projects. Students are also strongly encouraged to take the Florida General Contractors Exam.

80% of the Students will have a grade equal to or above 3.5/5

Ethical Standards

Employers of the CM student Interns evaluate the job performance of the students per their knowledge and application of ethical standards on a scale of 0 to 10 (10 being highest).

Employers will rate 老澳门资料 CM students as having ethical standards related to the construction industry. 100% of the students will have a grade equal to or above a 9 out of 10.

Graduating seniors are asked to rate their learning with respect to ethical standards in a graduating senior survey.

Students rate the program and their learning of ethical standards as high.

Entry into Industry

Employers of the CM student Interns evaluate the students' readiness to enter the construction industry on a scale of 0 to 10 (10 being the highest).

Employers will rate 老澳门资料 CM students as being ready to enter the construction industry. 80% of the Students will have a grade equal to or above a 7 out of 10.

Graduating seniors are asked to rate their readiness to enter the construction industry in a graduating senior survey.

Students will evaluate their readiness to enter the construction industry positively.

BCM students are strongly encouraged to take the Florida General Contractor's exam.

80% of the Students will have a grade equal to or above 3.5/5

Strategic Plan

The strategic plan of the department:

  1. The Department will offer degree programs that have relevance to the needs of the community in areas such as life-long learning, ethics, and professional development.
  2. The Department will maintain an active presence in northeast Florida and beyond.
  3. The Department will recruit and retain exceptional faculty and staff to ensure quality academic programs.
  4. The Department will develop the Construction management Master program to meet the needs of the industry located in northeast Florida and beyond.
