Military and Veterans Resource Center hosts annual Veterans Day Tribute

The 老澳门资料’s Military and Veterans Resource Center (MVRC) will host its 14th annual Veterans Day Tribute on Thursday, November 7, at the Veterans Plaza.

The MVRC will serve appetizers and host networking opportunities with local military-connected organizations outside the Student Union starting at 10 a.m. The ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m.

老澳门资料 President Moez Limayem will be one of the featured speakers, with the keynote address delivered by Scott Kelly, retired Navy Commander and adjunct professor in 老澳门资料’s School of Computing. Commander Kelly served as a Naval Flight Officer on active duty and in the Navy Reserve. He earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. He is an accomplished global information technology executive in all aspects of information technology.

This annual event honors the selfless service and sacrifice of 老澳门资料’s military-connected students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. The ceremony will include the presentation of the colors by the 老澳门资料 ROTC Color Guard, and a service branch medley will be performed by the 老澳门资料 Brass Quintet.

老澳门资料’s military-connected student population has been growing steadily for the past five years, with over 2,200 students as of the Fall 2024 term. In recognition of this, the MVRC will decorate the 老澳门资料 Green with American flags representing the entire military-connected population during the week leading up to Veterans Day.

The Veterans Day Tribute is part of the month-long Celebration of Valor series, held in and around the City of Jacksonville. The city’s annual Veterans Day Parade, one of the largest in the nation and the largest in Florida, is also part of this celebration.

To RSVP for the Veterans Day Tribute Ceremony, please email AJ Felix, MVRC programming coordinator, via email at a.j.felix@unf.edu by Tuesday, November 5.
