Community Engagement Research (CER) Faculty Fellowship

The Community Engagement Research (CER) Faculty Fellowship provides opportunities for faculty members to engage in research that measures the impact of Community-Based Learning (CBL) and Community Engagement on students, faculty, and the community (partnerships). Such research is critical to informing the broader institution on the value added of Community Engagement to our university and the northeast Florida region.

 

 

Who is eligible for a Community Engagement Research Faculty Fellowship?

Fellowship recipients are tenured or tenured-earning faculty members who:

  • Demonstrate commitment to CBL and Community Engagement.
  • Are willing to commit some of their professional research efforts toward understanding the impacts of CBL and Community Engagement on students, faculty, or the community (partnerships).
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with the institution on research questions of mutual interest.
  • Make a commitment to communicating with a variety of stakeholders about findings.

What are the benefits of a Community Engagement Research Faculty Fellowship?

  • Opportunity to complete research focused on the broad impacts of CBL and Community Engagement on students, faculty, and the community (partnerships).
  • Opportunities to present or publish Community Engagement work at the state, national, and possibly international levels.
  • Community Engagement Travel Award for $1,500 to attend and present at a national Community Engagement Conference in 2025 (if funding is available). 
  • $1,500 stipend each semester (Fall 2024, Spring 2025, Summer 2025) to support your research time and efforts.

What is required of a Community Engagement Research Faculty Fellowship recipient?

  • Attend monthly meetings with other CER Faculty Fellowship recipients along with the Faculty Fellow for Community Engagement Programs to discuss research progress.
  • Design and implement a research study focused on the impact of CBL and Community Engagement on community partners, students, and/or faculty to be carried out (data collected and analyzed) during the 2023 - 2024 academic year.
  • Produce a poster and present your research at the 2025 老澳门资料 Research Week STARS Event.
  • Offer one public lecture sharing the results of your impact study.
  • Be available, if invited, to make a short presentation to 老澳门资料 Executive Leadership on the purpose and outcome of your research study.

How does one become a Community Engagement Research Faculty Fellowship recipient?

Submit a research proposal through the online application form. Cohort 8 applications are available in January 2024.

Application and research proposal requirements:

  • Identify a CBL and Community Engagement research topic of interest that focuses on the impact on students, faculty, or the community (partnerships).
  • Explain the scope of the study as well as your interest in the research topic and identify any past experience within the selected topic.
  • Explain the relevance of the topic for the broader institution.
  • Provide a timeline for completing the research study during the duration of the program.
  • Include a copy of a current C.V.  – limited to 2 pages.

Review Process:

Applications and research proposals will be reviewed by the Faculty Fellow for Community Engagement Programs, the Director of Office of Faculty Excellence, and in consultation with the Associate Vice President for Faculty Excellence & Academic Engagement.

Applications will be reviewed according to the following criteria:

  • The extent of prior experience the applicant has with the type of research proposed and the specific research topic selected.
  • The research topic selected is relevant to the institution's interest in CBL and Community Engagement.
  • The viability of the research to be completed by the summer of 2025.
  • Although all research proposals are encouraged, preference will be given to applications that focus on impacts on the community (partnerships) and students (beyond learning outcomes).
