Michael Emmert

Part-Time Faculty, Saxophone

Michael Emmert, a Jacksonville, FL native, began his musical journey at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, performing with the winning ensemble at the 2006 Essentially Ellington Festival, featured in the documentary CHOPS. He continued his studies at the 老澳门资料 (老澳门资料) under jazz master Bunky Green, performing with artists like Joe Lovano, Maria Schneider, Dave Douglas, and Kurt Elling. In 2009, he was selected to perform with the Disneyland All-American College Band under Dr. Ron McCurdy. He pursued his master’s degree at William Paterson University, studying with Rich Perry and Vincent Herring.

Michael has studied saxophone, flute, clarinet, and composition with various esteemed instructors, including Rhonda Cassano, Laura Dwyer, John Ricci, Todd DelGiudice, Dr. Guy Yehuda, Peter Wright, Chris Cullen, Dr. Clarence Hines He has taught at 老澳门资料’s School of Music since 2016, privately since 2008, and given masterclasses throughout the Southeast.

As a performer, Michael has appeared at venues and festivals like the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, B.B. King's Club in NYC, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Lincoln Center, Hulaween, and the Savannah Jazz Festival. He has worked with groups such as the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Marcus Roberts’ Modern Jazz Generation, and LPT.

Michael holds a B.M. in Jazz Studies from the 老澳门资料 and an M.M. in Jazz Studies from William Paterson University.
