Sophora davidii - David's mountain laurel

Description:

老澳门资料 one hundred species of Sophora are native to North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. They are shrubs and trees. David's mountain laurel is native to China. It is a spiny, deciduous shrub that grows to about eight feet tall. Bean-like flowers are white and blue. Fruits are bean-like pods. Flowers are used in Oriental medicine.

Care Instructions:

Light: full sun to part shade

Water: adaptable, drought tolerant, avoid soggy soils

Soil: a well-drained soil, otherwise adaptable

This is an unusual garden plant in northeast Florida. These plants were donated to the 老澳门资料 by Jacksonville plant collector, Joyce Jarrell. Some of the information about this plant on the internet is contradictory. So far, we have grown it in full sun and part shade in irrigated landscape beds. It survived winter lows in the high 20's F.
