Rosa x 'Red Knockout' - Red Knockout rose
Family Rosaceae
Description:
Approximately 100 to 200 wild rose species grow naturally around the world in the northern hemisphere. Most garden roses are complex hybrids of these species. The Knockout rose series is the product of a breeding program for increased disease resistance. As a result, this group of hybrids does not require the typically heavy use of pesticides of traditional hybrid roses. Knockout roses are available with flowers in various shades of pink. Knockout Red has a dark pink, nearly red flower. It has a long season of bloom, in part because it produces fruits rarely.
Location:
See this plant in front of the Fine Arts Building, at the southern end.
Size:
Shrub to four or five feet tall.
Care Instructions:
Light: full sun
Water: drought tolerant when established
Soil: average garden soil, responds well to fertilizer
In general, roses grow well in a well-drained soil, in full sun, in a spot with good air circulation. They flower on new growth. Encouraging new growth with irrigation and fertilizer results in more flowers. Good air circulation helps control fungal disease.
