Robinia x 'Purple Robe' - Purple Robe locust

Description:
Four or five species of Robinia are native to North America. They are shrubs and trees. Purple Robe locust is a hybrid between a tall tree with white flowers, Robinia psuedoacacia, and a shrubby species with purple flowers, R. hispida. The fragrant flowers appear in spring before the tree's leaves. They resemble large bean flowers and are held in drooping clusters from the branch tips.

A plant can be seen north of parking garage 38 near the elevated walkway to the Arena.
Size:
Medium-sized tree to about thirty-five feet.
Care Instructions:

Water: drought tolerant
Soil: a well-drained soil, no other special requirements
This tree is rare in the Jacksonville area but shows promise after two years. Grow it in a well-drained, sunny area. Be cautious about over-watering.
