Description:
Ten species of Eriobotrya are native to Asia. They are evergreen shrubs and trees. Loquat is native to China but was introduced to Japan long ago. It is a tree to about twenty-five feet with six to twelve inch long leaves. Small white flowers with a spicy fragrance appear from fall to late winter. They are followed by sweet, acidic edible fruit.

This is an easy plant for north Florida gardeners. Grow it in a sunny site with well-drained soil. In Florida, this is a great dooryard fruit tree but the fruit has little commercial use.
